From the North

At Carlisle follow the A595 for 26 miles, and into Cockermouth on the Gote Road. Across bridge, turn left into Crown Street. Passing Trout Hotel turn right into Sullart Street, second left to Station Street and first right onto Lorton Street. After 0.5 mile turn right into Vicarage Lane, leading onto Simonscales Lane. 50 metres past last house turn left into a private lane leading to Violet Bank.

 

From the South

Exit M6 at Junction 40 onto A66 Keswick. Continue on A66 and 4 miles before Cockermouth, turn left, signposted Lorton and Buttermere. Turn right at T junction, right again at fork signposted Cockermouth 2 miles (see map). In 1.5 miles turn right at T junction, second left for Vicarage Lane, leading onto Simonscales Lane. 50 metres past last house turn left into a private lane leading to Violet Bank.
